Online registration uploads: 667.3 GB
Three unencrypted backups of the online registration database were in the SQL backup directory, measuring 449.2 GB, 110.6 GB, and 107.5 GB. The server also had 859 loose residential tenancy lease files and 11 .csv registration mismatch and duplicate exports from April 2024.
When parents register a child online at SD41, the portal requires them to upload identity and proof-of-address documents. Those database backups include uploaded scans of parent permanent resident cards, citizenship papers, study or work permits, birth certificates, driver's licences, tenancy agreements, property tax notices, and utility bills from 2024 and 2026 registrations.
MyEducation BC student profiles: 568.6 MB
Two unencrypted SQL Server backups of the district's MyEducation BC student database, at 285.5 MB and 283.1 MB, cover students enrolled between 2024 and 2026. They include student names, birth dates, home addresses, phone numbers, emails, parent and guardian contacts, 9-digit Personal Education Numbers, medical allergies, Ministry special-needs designations, and BC Care Card Personal Health Numbers.
Plain-text 2021–2022 grades and attendance: 469.7 MB
Four exports from the 2021–2022 school year were left in an unencrypted archive folder on the shared drive as plain .txt files for four years. The largest file is 376.0 MB from August 2022 and lists final 2021–2022 course marks, teacher report-card comments, and special-education course codes. The other three files are from July 2022. They cover 65.2 MB of daily student attendance logs, 27.3 MB of student home addresses, birth dates, PENs, and parent contact details, and 1.1 MB of student medical conditions and alerts.
Special education lists and Kindergarten notes: 6.81 GB
The main district SQL database backup includes lists of students receiving learning support, along with their diagnoses and support needs, and Kindergarten readiness observations from 2021 to 2025.
Youth Services and school psychology files: 203 files
Youth Services folders on the shared drive had 201 named Word and PDF student intervention letters from 2020 to 2026. A subfolder also had archived school psychologist evaluations dating back more than 15 years.
Student witness interviews and class lists in HR folders
Inside teacher misconduct and workplace investigation folders, HR kept dozens of named student witness interview documents, parent complaint PDFs, and RCMP file references from more than 14 schools. One folder covered a February 2025 investigation into an internal MyEducation BC student contact data issue. Those directories also had full class rosters for Grade 7/8 classes and several elementary schools, an Ombudsperson allergy and safety plan case file, a 2020–2021 list of immunocompromised and distance-learning students, and a September 2022 Indigenous student enrolment check spreadsheet.
Summer Session student monitor records
Two HR folders had records for paid student monitors from Summer Session: a Summer 2026 payroll spreadsheet, a demographics document, and Word and Excel files listing student monitor logins and plain-text passwords.
